The Love List: Marble
We have been doing a deep dive into our “signature style” and I had an interesting revelation:
So many of the things I love to use in projects are materials that have been around forever but interpreted in different ways in different eras. Literally timeless! Think about wicker. Wicker is a natural, organic material. The Victorians used it to create fanciful pieces in decadent shapes covered in curlicues. Love it. In the 70s it was mixed with chrome and much more sleek, streamlined shapes. Love it! Currently it is being used with scalloped edges, in cheeky shapes like a skirted tables, and in bold sculptural forms. Yep, love it all.
This year, for holiday wish lists, I decided to build a list of some of these timeless, endlessly re-invented things that I love to use, to show the variety in the marketplace and to point you to a wide range of options at various price points, should you want in on any of this goodness.
First up: Marbleization
(Wicker is coming soon!)
We love a good marble paper. For me, maybe it stems to my post-grad year in Europe and the Florence flea market. I still have the marbled book I bought at seventeen and filled with quotes that were meangingful to me at the time.
We have used marbled wallpaper, lampshades, books, trays, trash cans—you name it! We also like actual marble and I threw in a few pieces for good measure.
In our Kent, CT project we used my favorite marble wallpaper from Robert Crowder.
